<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline cell which is impact-resistant and superior in reliability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the alkaline cell 10, a positive electrode mixture 12 is housed in a bottomed cylindrical positive electrode can 11, and a bottomed separator 13 and a gelatinous negative electrode mixture 14 are housed. An opening part of the positive electrode can 11 is sealed by a negative electrode terminal plate 21. In a negative electrode current collecting rod 22, the base end side is fixed to the negative electrode terminal plate 21 and the tip side is inserted into the gelatinous negative electrode mixture 14. By inserting and penetrating the negative electrode current collecting rod 22 into a lid member 30, the lid member 30 is arranged so as to be in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the negative electrode current collecting rod 22. The lid member 30 is arranged so as to cover the opening of the separator 13. By this arrangement, a negative electrode chamber 32 which is closed inside the separator 13 is partitioned. While an air reservoir 33 is left in the vicinity of the current collecting rod insertion side end 29, the gelatinous negative electrode mixture 14 is filled in the negative electrode chamber 32.
