<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem in a device using surface plasmon resonance: a plasmon resonance condition is not established frequently because of a deviation of the device from the optical constant or shape of a material intended by a design value due to a manufacture process, specification environment change and time lapse, and plasmon intensity and a propagation distance, etc., are remarkably reduced when the behavior of plasmon deviates from the resonance condition, and the manufactured device can not obtain a desired performance. <P>SOLUTION: The optical constant of a dielectric in contact with a metal where surface plasmon is excited is corrected by stimulation from the outside. When an electrochromic material is used as the dielectric, the optical constant can be controlled by a voltage applied from the outside, and past difficulties are conquered. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
