PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely eliminate non-lighting of a high-pressure discharge lamp upon start of an engine in a two-wheel vehicle or a large four-wheel vehicle such as a land cruiser. SOLUTION: The lighting circuit includes: an electric generator 2 which generates electricity by rotation of the engine 1; a cell motor 4 which starts the engine 1; a storage battery 5 which stores power generated by the generator 2 as a power source for the cell motor 4 and an on-vehicle lighting discharge lamp 9; the high-pressure discharge lamp 9 which is lighted through an electronic ballast 8 with the storage battery 5 as the power source; the electronic ballast 8; and a ballast control circuit 10 which is set between the storage battery 5 and the electronic ballast 8. The ballast control circuit detects a voltage drop of the storage battery 5 when starting the cell motor, interrupts the feed to the electronic ballast 8 when the voltage is a set voltage value or more, detects a voltage rise of the storage battery 5 after stopping the cell motor by starting of the engine, and restarts the feed to the electronic ballast 8 when the voltage exceeds the set voltage value.
