[Also in Division E2] A car bonnet catch 27 may be released by pulling on a Bowden cable 13, Fig. 2, or a rod (42), Fig. 3 (not shown), the cable being connected to a splined shaft 12, Fig. 4, fixed to an inner coupling 11 which in turn is connected with an extension 9 of a cylindrical lock 2 by a spring loaded pin 8 engaging in a hole 10 in the coupling 11. The dashboard mounted lock 2 has wards 3, Fig. 4, which may project into slots 4 in a lock housing 5 provided with a knob 14 and also into slots 6 in a surrounding sleeve 7 slidable in a fixed sleeve 35 within the limits set by movement of a screw 22 within a slot 23. An end cover 18 of the fixed sleeve 35 is slotted at 17 to receive a pin 15 on a disc 16 fixed to the shaft 12, which arrangement limits rotational movement of the shaft. In operation insertion of the key 1 withdraws the wards 3 from the slots 4 and 6 thus allowing the look to be rotated within sleeve 7 and also the look extension 9 which carries with it the coupling 11, shaft 12 and cable 13. The rotation of these members is limited by the pin 15 engaging the slot 17 in the end cover 18 of the fixed sleeve 35. In this position the splined shaft 12 registers with the openings 20 in the cover 18 so that the knob 14 may then be pulled to move the cable 13 and release the catch 27. The key can only be withdrawn when the lock is turned such that the wards 3 are aligned with the slots 4 and 6, in which rotational position the splined shaft 12 is not registered with the openings 20 in the cover 18. |
