PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet printer free from possibility of collision of a projector with a photoreceiver, not requiring a communication distance to be elongated uselessly, not restricting positions of various devices arranged outside a recording area, and allowing optical communication between a carriage side and a printer body side. SOLUTION: In the inkjet printer, the carriage 1 mounted with a recording head 3 is arranged movable along a main scanning direction in a printer body, the communication between the carriage 1 side and the printer body side is performed by arranging either of the projector 8 and the photoreceiver 9 in the carriage 1 side, and the other in the printer body side. The one arranged in the printer body side out of the projector 8 and the photoreceiver 9 is arranged in a position lower than that of the other arranged in the carriage 1 side, and the projector 8 and the photoreceiver 9 are attached so as to make each of their optical paths L1, L2 oblique to the main scanning direction.
