<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide distance measuring equipment enabling its configuration to be simplified. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The distance measuring equipment 1 comprises an aircraft 3 for measuring a distance, a transponder 13 for transmitting and receiving pulses P<SB>1</SB>and P<SB>2</SB>, and a first monitoring section 15 (second monitoring section 16). The first monitoring section 15 (second monitoring section 16) comprises a false question control circuit 34a (34b), a transmitting circuit 35a (35b) for transmitting a false question pulse based on a pulse interval, and a response pulse monitoring circuit 33a (33b) for monitoring the state of the transponder 13 based on the response pulse P<SB>2</SB>when the transponder 13 responds to the false question pulse. The false question control circuit 34a (34b) comprises a noise source 51a (51b) for generating noise An, a random value generating circuit 53a (53b) for generating a random value Ra based on the noise An, a pulse interval generating circuit 55a (55b) for generating a pulse interval Int<SB>1</SB>(Int<SB>2</SB>) based on the random value Ra, and a false question generating circuit 56a (56b) for generating a false question pulse PP<SB>1</SB>(PP<SB>2</SB>) transmitted to the transponder 13.
