PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for outputting audio in an image display device are provided to output various data on the image display device. CONSTITUTION: An audio output unit(136) outputs audio data received through an external interface unit. A display unit(132) is turned on according to whether image data exists in data received through the external interface unit. A controller(180) receives a external device control signal from a user. The controller performs a control operation to make the audio output unit and the display unit output corresponding data according to the control signal. The controller turns on/off the display unit according to the data.
