Disclosed is a method for processing audio signals. The method comprises the steps of: converting an audio signal into a frequency to generate a frequency spectrum; using the frequency spectrum to determine a weight value for each band which corresponds to energy for each band; receiving a masking threshold value according to a psychological sound model; applying the weight value to the masking threshold value to generate a transformed masking threshold value; and using the transformed masking threshold value to quantize the audio signal.
