PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of wiring members in a lighting device for a discharge lamp using an inverter H1 by transmitting an output of a detection circuit 1a of a low voltage side substrate K2 without using wiring and make it hard to have an effect of noise caused by wiring. SOLUTION: This lighting device for the discharge lamp is equipped with the inverter H1 which supplies high frequency lamp current to the discharge lamp N1, a state detection circuit 1a arranged at least on the low voltage side of the discharge lamp N1 and to detect the state of the discharge lamp N1, a transmission means 1b which outputs transmission signals 1c when receiving the output of the state detection circuit 1a, and a receiving means 1d which controls the inverter H1 when receiving the transmission signals 1c. The inverter H1 and the receiving means 1d are arranged on the substrate K1 that is different from the substrate K2 on which the state detection circuit 1a and the transmission means 1b are arranged.
