<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat-type alkaline primary battery that can improve handling performance and capacity storage performance, and a manufacturing method there of the flat-type alkaline primary battery. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a flat-type alkaline primary battery 1 housing a positive electrode mixture 5, a negative electrode mixture 7, and an electrolytic solution in a case 8, the positive electrode mixture 5 contains nickel oxyhydroxide the surface of which is coated with a γ-cobalt oxyhydroxide as a main positive electrode active material while the negative electrode mixture 7 uses zinc powder or zinc alloy powder as a main negative electrode active material, and contains carboxymethyl cellulose and a cross-linked polyacrylic acid or its salts as a thickener.
