PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for predicting the occurrence of deformation which can predict the occurrence of deformation in a product in consideration of influence by elastic recovery of a plate material. SOLUTION: The method for predicting the occurrence of deformation includes: a first step (S1-S3) of computing, on the basis of forming force acting on a workpiece from the outside, an internal stressσacting on the workpiece deformed under the forming force; a second step (S4-S5) of computing, on the basis of the internal stressσcomputed in the first step, an internal stressσ' acting on the workpiece after elastic recovery under the internal stressσ; a third step (S6) of computing an stress differenceΔσbetween obverse and reverse sides including and defined as a difference between an internal stressσ1 on one side of the neutral plane and an internal stressσ2 on the other side of the neutral plane along the direction of the plate thickness, out of the internal stressσ' acting on the workpiece after elastic recovery computed in the second step; and a fourth step of displaying the distribution of the stress differencesΔσbetween obverse and reverse sides computed in the third step.
