PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a black pigment dispersion, in which the dispersibility of the black pigment is stable for a long term, and a black coating which substantially contains no aggregation can be formed, and a production method thereof. SOLUTION: A black pigment dispersion comprises a black pigment powder comprising a titanium oxinitride represented by the general formula: TiOxNy, wherein 1.0≤x+y≤1.3, and 2x<y; a resin; and a solvent, characterized in that the solvent is a complex solvent comprising 5 to 50% of an aqueous solvent and an ester solvent, comprising 0.3 to 2.0% of water content based on the content of the pigment, wherein the black pigment dispersion preferably comprising 0.5 to 10% by mass of the content of the resin, 15 to 40% by mass of the composite solvent, and the residual black pigment; and there is provided the production method of the black pigment dispersion, wherein the dispersion is prepared by adding water to achieve the above water content at the preparation of the raw materials.
