<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle capable of certainly suppressing production of off-odor while performing fuel consumption-saving control to which favor of an occupant is reflected. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A first threshold value (Y1) indicating an upper limit in a comfortability range in the comfortability index (IR) indicating comfortability of an occupant and a second threshold value (Y2) set to a value of the first threshold value (Y1) or higher are set to a value corresponding to a fuel consumption-saving mode selected by a fuel consumption-saving mode selection means. It is determined that a temperature (TE) of an evaporator (16) is not more than a first predetermined temperature (Twet-A) set to a wet bulb temperature (Twet) or lower of the evaporator (16) and that the comfortability index (IR) is the first threshold value (Y1) or lower, and a compressor (32) is turned OFF. When the temperature (TE) of the evaporator (16) becomes higher than a second predetermined temperature (Twet-B) set lower than the wet bulb temperature (Twet) of the evaporator (16) or when the comfortability index (IR) becomes the second threshold value (Y2) or higher, the compressor (32) is turned ON.
