PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scan optical device for shading irregular reflection light in a compulsive light emitting region to prevent deterioration of image quality. SOLUTION: A laser scanner unit (scan optical device) 30 is installed with a scan optical system including various optical components comprising first and second imaging lenses 39, 40, a polarizing means including a polygon mirror 32 and a polygon motor 33 rotating it, and a scan light beam detecting means including a reflective mirror 34 for detecting a beam and a BD sensor (light receiving element) 35 in a housing 31. A shading rib (shading member) 42 is provided between the polygon motor 32 and a first coupling lens 39. Herein, the shading rib 42 is arranged in the compulsive light emitting region out of an image region. In addition, a shading range of the shading rib 42 is a region shading the irregular reflective light of the compulsive light emitting region in 70% or more without shading scan light of an image region.
