Linear or cross-linked polycarbodiimides are prepared by the corresponding polyisocyanate by heating to a temperature within the range 100-250 DEG C. in the presence of a catalytic amount of a metal complex derived from a d-group transition element such as Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt and Av and a p -bonding ligand such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbyl isocyanides, trihydrocarbyl-phosphines, -arsines or stibines, dihydrocarbyl sulphides and conjugated cycloaliphatic dienes and trienes, at least one p -bonding ligand in the complex being carbon monoxide or a C1-C12 hydrocarbyl isocyanide.ALSO:Carbodiimides and polycarbodiimides are prepared by converting the corresponding isocyanate by heating to a temperature within the range 100-250 DEG C. in the presence of a catalytic amount of a metal complex derived from a d-group transistion element (such as Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt and Au) and a p -bonding ligand (such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbyl isocyanides, trihydrocarbyl-phosphines, -arsines and -stibines, dihydrocarbyl sulphides and conjugated cycloaliphatic dienes and trienes), at least one of the p -bonding ligands in the complex being carbon monoxide or a C1-C12 hydrocarbylisocyanide. |
