<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion valve which can prevent contamination in a refrigeration cycle caused by wear powder. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The expansion valve has a refrigerant passage 101 formed in a body block 10 to pass a refrigerant; a valve port 14 formed at the refrigerant passage 101; a valve element 17 movable with respect to the body block 10 and adjusting an opening of the valve port 14; an operating rod 25 for operating the valve element 17; and a power element 41 for operating the operating rod 25. The body block 10 and the valve element 17 are connected via a spring 300 for applying an energizing force to the valve element 17 and a dash pot 310 provided in mechanically parallel with the spring 300.
