<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which can avoid or suppress the unevenness in the solid phase ratio of a semi-solid billet. Ž<P>SOLUTION: On the surface 14 of a columnar body 12 (particularly, the side face 14s of the columnar body 12), a plurality of slits 16 non-parallel to the height direction A of the columnar body 12 are formed. The depth of the slits 16 is a skin depth or more, and the spacing between the slits 16 is a distance based on the skin depth. Concretely, the spacing between the slits is controlled to about two times the skin depth for avoiding the interference of an electromagnetic field introduced from one side of projecting parts formed by the slits 16 and an electromagnetic field intruded from the other side thereof.
