PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a conveyor belt which retains basic physical properties such as hardness, breaking strength, breaking elongation and tear strength and can reduce power consumption, and to provide a conveyor belt. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a conveyor belt comprises a diene rubber and silica, wherein the silica has a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 80-300 m<SP>2</SP>/g, the content of the silica is 15-60 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the diene rubber, and the rubber composition contains no carbon black.
