METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR FINDING DOCUMENT IMAGE IN DOCUMENT COLLECTION USING LOCALIZED TWO-DIMENSIONAL VISUAL FINGERPRINTS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer-operable method and system for finding an image of a target document or document set incorporated to a large-scale collection of documents based on an image of a query document that is an imperfect copy of the target image.

SOLUTION: The image management method for search of image data or the like includes steps of identifying keypoints in images, including keypoints in a query image of a query document and keypoints in potential target document images; generating fingerprint information from the keypoints; comparing fingerprint information of the query image with fingerprint information of the potential target document images; determining a best match of the fingerprint information between the query image and the potential target document images; searching at least one target document image based on the determined best match; and performing at least one of display, printing, storing and transmission of at least one searched target document image. The keypoints include a mode for consistently identifying a certain image.
