PURPOSE: An insert for a cutting tool is provided to lengthen the service life by performing cutting even after the edge of the superhard layer is worn out. CONSTITUTION: An insert(100) for a cutting tool comprises a supporting member(110), a superhard layer(120), and a cutting film(130). The superhard layer is attached to the supporting member. The cutting film is arranged inside the superhard layer in order to be exposed in the abrasion of the superhard layer. One end of the cutting film rests on the extended line of the perimeter of the superhard layer. The superhard layer contains diamond or boron nitride, and the cutting film contains one selected from the group consisting of diamond, cobalt tungsten carbide, and SiC. |
