A submerged hollow fiber membrane module comprising a cylindrical vessel having openings at the upper and lower ends wherein the upper half of the peripheral wall exposed to the outside consists of a porous member at least partially and the lower half thereof has a non-opening shape, a hollow fiber membrane bundle consisting of a large numberof hollow fiber membranes located vertically in the cylindrical vessel, a hollow fiber membrane collection member provided at the upper end of the hollow fiber membranes and bonded to the cylindrical vessel, in order to fix the hollow fiber membranes with the hollow portions thereof kept open, a water collection cap connected to the hollow fiber membrane collection member, a hollow fiber membrane sealing member provided at the lower end of the hollow fiber membranes in order to seal the hollow portions thereof, and an air collection tube provided on the outside of the hollow fiber membrane sealing member and bonded to the cylindrical vessel, characterized in that the bonded portion of the cylindrical vessel and the air collection tube consists of a porous member, thus enhancing efficiency at the time of cleaning the membranes and long term durability of the module.
