PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a genuine/counterfeit determination method and device for a coin using an acoustic property allowing clear comprehension of a pattern of collision sound without causing suppression of the collision sound emitted by the coin by another member by colliding the coin that is a determination target with a collision sound generation means without bringing the coin into contact with the other member. SOLUTION: A storage part 25 stores an analysis pattern of a natural frequency of a genuine coin. A metal block 4 generates the collision sound by the collision with the coin 2. A chute 1 collides the coin with the metal block 4 without bringing the coin into contact with the other object. An arithmetic part 23 obtains a natural frequency of the collision sound recorded by a microphone 20 by the fast Fourier transform. A pattern analysis part 24 analyzes a peak frequency of the natural frequency of the collision sound and a band thereof. A genuine/counterfeit determination part 26 compares the obtained analysis pattern and the analysis pattern of the natural frequency of the genuine coin previously stored in the storage part 25 to decide genuine/counterfeit of the inspected coin.
