<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-propelling running toy using a flywheel, which toy is inexpensive, compact, and light weight and can be easily handled by a player. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The running toy 1 is made self-propelling by transmitting the rotation of a flywheel 7 to drive wheels 22 by a gear train. The gear train is configured by including: a gear train for flywheel with a plurality of gears to transmit the rotation of an input gear 42 for flywheel to a final gear attached to the flywheel shaft; a gear 2 for drive wheels to rotate the drive shaft of the drive wheels 22; and at least one control transmitting gear 3 set between the gear 2 for drive wheels and the input gear 42 for flywheel. The control transmitting gear 3 includes a control member 50 to make the bite with at least one of the input gear 42 for flywheel and the gear 2 for drive wheels releasable so as to block the rotation transmission of the input gear 42 for flywheel and the gear 2 for drive wheels, and to move the control transmitting gear 3 so as to bite with the gear made bite releasable.
