<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To validate a predetermined section without errors and to accurately discriminate the predetermined section from the adjacent section. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The event detection part 101 of the apparatus detects a section wherein a predetermined characteristic is generated, as an event section in video images decoded by a decoding unit 3. An event time information storage part 1012 obtains the start time and end time of the detected event section and the time for analysis between the start time and the end time and stores them. A multiple event section specifying part 103 specifies the adjacent event sections as the ones within a group when the interval of the two pieces of the time for the analysis of the adjacent event sections satisfies a prescribed condition. Then, a video kind discrimination part 104 discriminates the plurality of event sections predetermined as the ones within the group from the leading event section to the final event section, as the first kind of video images, and the others as the second kind of the video images.
