A knowledge base for each of a plurality of potential targets of an electronic document consist of public and private portions of a knowledge profile, including public and private knowledge terms, respectively. Responsive to a first query received from an originator (704), a first access to a potential targets' public portion (704, 706) occurs, and a first set of targets is identified using a first matching operation performed between document term(s) within the electronic document and said public knowledge term(s) (706). The first set of targets is then published to the originator. Responsive to a second query from the originator (716), a second set of targets is identified using a second matching operation performed between said document term(s) and said private knowledge term(s) (716, 718). Each target of the second set of targets is then prompted for authorization to be published to the originator (722, 724).
