A system for the metering and delivery of small discrete volumes of liquid, comprised of a minimal number of inexpensive components. Fluid (103) is move d rrom a resrvoir (102) through a displacement chamber (104) by movement of a plunger (112). The plunger (112) is moved from a first limit (105) to a seco nd limit (106) by an acuator comprised of a shape memory alloy (114) ans biasin g spring (115). Electrical current is supplied to the shape memory alloy (114) by a control circuit (116) that cycles the movement of the plunger (112).
