<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sealing member from deteriorating by improving partial contact with a seal seat surface of seal member due to influence of heat generated in manufacturing process, and also to improve the closing performance of a gate valve. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The gate valve 1 comprises: a valve box 1 having gate opening sections 9a, 9b; and a valve element 5 which opens and closes the gate opening sections 9a, 9b by reciprocatingly sliding in one direction. When the gate opening sections 9a, 9b of the valve box 1 is closed by slidingly moving the valve element 5, the seal member 13 attached to a peripheral surface 53a of right-side valve element part 53 and a peripheral surface 56a of a left-side valve element part 56 of the valve element 5 makes contact with right seal seat surface 11 and left seal seat surface 16 being peripheral surfaces of the gate opening sections 9a, 9b of the valve box 1 to close the gate opening sections 9a, 9b. A spacer 21 for restricting the crash amount of the seal member 13 is installed between the peripheral surface 53a of the right-side valve element part 53 of the valve element 5 and the right seal seat surface 11 of the valve body 2.
