PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling an external peripheral device using IR control signal of a car video interface is provided to control the peripheral device using an IR control signal of a car video interface through a remote controller code value for controlling a peripheral device added to a car video system. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling an external peripheral device using IR control signal of a car video interface comprises a display unit(50a), an A/V module unit(30), and an LVDS switch(20). The display unit shows navigation information or vehicle screen data. The A/V module part provides detects IR control signal of a remote controller code value conforming to any command signal from pre-stored remote controller code value based on the peripheral devices attached to a car A/V system, and provides the IR control signal. The LVDS switch receives the vehicle screen data and low voltage automatic signal from the A/V module, and then transmits them to the display unit. The A/V module part consists of an A/D converter circuit part(34), a video processor circuit part(32), and an MCU(36). The A/D converter circuit part converts analog signal from exterior into digital signal. The video processor circuit part processes the signal AD-converted from the A/D converter circuit unit. The MCU controls the circuit unit inside the A/V module, and accordingly transmits the LVDS signal to an LVDS switch. The MCU transmits the IR control signal of predetermined remote controller code value of the peripheral devices based on command signal.
