PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method capable of treating the surface of a metal material in a short time. SOLUTION: A method for treating the surface of the metal material for forging comprises the steps of blasting granules to the metal material while heating the metal material and forming a lubricous coating on the surface of the metal material after blasting. The surface treatment method heats the metal material in the course of blasting, allowing formation of the coating immediately after completion of blasting.
