PURPOSE: A wheel input device for a remote controller is provided to select a specific item or function by rotating a planar wheel forward and backward. CONSTITUTION: A planar wheel(11) is fixed in one side of a remote controller and is freely rotated according to the operation of a user. A plurality of reflective plates(12) to reflect the light and absorption plates(13) to absorb the light are alternatively arranged around the circumference of the planar wheel. One light emitting unit(14) transmitting a light emission signal upward is comprised in one end of the lower surface of the lower circumference of the planar wheel. Left and right receivers(15a,15b) are formed in right and left sides of the light emitting unit. The left and right receivers receive the different reflective signal in a forward rotation and a backward rotation among the rotation operation of the planar wheel including the reflective plate. The left and right receivers indentify the rotation direction of the planar wheel.
