<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a door device can restrain a failure when a door is opened or closed which may occur at a door closing end of an elevator hall door, and its operation method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This elevator door device includes a car door installed at an entrance/exit of a car of an elevator and having an engaged member 115, a hall door 2 provided at each floor of a building and having an engagement member engaged with the engaged member 115, and a detection part detecting whether the engagement member of the hall door 2 is engaged with the engaged member 115 of the car door 3 or not. When the hall door 2 is closed and so forth, if the detection part does not detect that the engagement member of the hall door 2 is properly engaged with the engaged member 115 of the car door 3, the engagement member 109 is moved to the engaged member 115.
