<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a webbing winding device capable of changing energy absorbing amount by an energy absorbing means according to an occupant's physique without using an expensive part such as a gas generator. <P>SOLUTION: In this webbing winding device 10, a switching gear 82 is rotated in conjunction with rotation of a spool. When the occupant has large physique and the length of a webbing belt drawn from the spool is long, and thereby the spool is rotated by fixed quantity or more in the drawing direction when drawing the webbing belt, a switching cam 88 provided in the switching gear 82 makes a lock pawl 80 closer to a lock ring 76, and a rachet tooth of the lock pawl 80 is engaged with a rachet tooth 78 of the lock ring 76.
