PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable low floating while to improve read/write properties in a device for controlling a floating amount by a magnetic head having a heating element for controlling a projection amount of a head. SOLUTION: A table (18) storing heater electric power corresponding to a target floating amount applied to a heater (24) is provided in each region divided in the circumferential direction of a magnetic recording medium (3) during reading/writing, the heating element (24) of a magnetic head (2) is heated by the heater electric power of the specified region. On the whole surface of the magnetic recording medium, the floating amount can be controlled to a low floating amount profitable for read-out/write-in properties while securing the lowest floating amount in which the reliability of contact between the head and the medium can be obtained.
