A lighting device having a reduced size. The lighting device has a support member (9) installed on an installation section (4c) of a backlight chassis (4), a power source substrate (6) placed behind the backlight chassis (4), and an insulation sheet (7) bonded to a bottom section (4a) of the backlight chassis (4). The installation section (4c) does not project rearward from the bottom section (4a) but projects forward. The support member (9) is installed so as not to project rearward from the bonding surface between the bottom section (4a) and the insulation sheet (7).
