<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in a conventional character input device, only general prediction candidates of character input or candidates arbitrarily registered by a user are displayed, so that necessary conversion candidates are not always accurately displayed. <P>SOLUTION: The character input device is configured to extract a character string included in an acquired document, and rearranges conversion candidates so that the character string is displayed relatively close to the top. In this device, the character string can be extracted based on a received mail, a schedule, a position coordinate, a content attribute or the like.
