PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a wrong report of a transport error position in a transport device wherein a plurality of transport mediums are sequentially aligned in a transport direction and transported and a transport error is checked for each transport medium while preceding transport mediums free from error are continued to be transported. SOLUTION: The transport device is provided with a plurality of sensors 142, arranged along a transport direction for detecting whether a plurality of pieces of paper P sequentially aligned in the transport direction and transported exist or not, an error determining part 210 for determining a transport error of each piece of paper P based on a driving quantity of a transport part 102 for transporting the paper P and the detection by the sensors 142 and a CPU 200 for continuing transport by the transporting part 102, in the case of being determined as a transport error by the error determining part 210, for the paper P moving ahead of the paper P which is involved in the transport error. In the case of making a determination as a transport error, the error determining part 210 stops to make determination of transport error of the paper P which is involved in the transport error and the paper P following it.
