PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tip holder for a main spindle movement type automatic lathe capable of repeatingly performing machining while reciprocating a rod material in an axial direction. SOLUTION: In the tip holder 10 of the tip type cutting tool for the main spindle movement type automatic lathe, when the tip holder 10 for mounting the tip 21 is placed/fixed to a tool rest of the lathe, a relationship of the tip 22 and the tip holder 10 is set such that a position of a cutting edge 22 is left from an end surface of a guide bushing 52 in an axial direction of the rod material 51 by a predetermined distance or more. Specifically, when the tip 21 is mounted, for example to a predetermined position of an end part of the tip holder 10, it may be set such that a reference surface 12, a side surface of the tip holder 10 and the cutting edge 22 of the tip 21 are left from each other by a predetermined distance or more. In this case, since the rod material 51 positioned between the end surface of the guide bushing 52 and the cutting edge 22 is not cut, even if machining is repeatedly performed while reciprocating the rod material 51 in the axial direction, the rod material 51 is always supported by the guide bushing 52 at the non-cut portion.
