It is possible to provide a plasma display panel drive method and a plasma display device capable of stabilizing a selection initialization operation to display an image of a high luminance and contrast and a preferable display quality. A plurality of sub fields each having an initialization period, a write period, and a sustaining period are arranged within one field. A holding period for holding voltage to be applied to a scan electrode and a sustaining electrode is provided after applying voltage to weaken the last sustaining discharge in the sustaining period to the sustaining electrode until a lowering inclined waveform voltage is applied to the scan electrode in the initialization period of the next sub field.
