PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible in regard with a filter, such as a bag filter of a dust collector, which needs to have heat resistance and a method for surface-processing a filter to improve heat resistance, chemical resistance, water repellency, lowness of frictional resistance, and easiness of dust separation. SOLUTION: A filtering medium 1 composed of a fiber aggregate such as a woven fabric or a nonwoven fabric is impregnated with a dispersion containing polyimide resin particles, fluororesin particles such as PTFE and heat-resistant short fibers, and the impregnation resin is dried and solidified. Thus, a surface layer comprising an admixture of a polyimide resin 2, a fluororesin 3, and heat-resistant short fibers 4 are formed on the surface of the filtering medium 1. The heat-resistant fine short fibers can clog voids among the fibers of the filtering medium 1 to permit the resultant filtering medium 1 to attain high filter performance in spite of being low-cost.
