A printer includes at least one printhead for printing on a print medium. A print engine is connected to the, or each, printhead to control operation of the, or each, printhead. A bus is connected to the print engine to provide the, or each, printhead with print data. A processor is connected to the bus for controlling operation of the printer. A network interface is connected to the bus to permit the processor to communicate with network devices on a network. A data input means is connected to the bus to permit data to be read to the processor by a user.
