<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control apparatus of power transmission device for vehicle which suppresses the sensation of muddling, when stepping on an accelerator. <P>SOLUTION: A controller for the power transmission device 10 is provided with an engine 8; a power distribution mechanism 36, equipped with a motor M and a differential portion 16, and can function as an electric differential portion; and a stepped automatic shift portion 20, connected to the power distribution mechanism 36 wherein a power to be output from the engine 8 is transmitted to a drive wheel 34. When the degree of progress of the upshift of the automatic shift portion 20 that is performed during the traveling of a vehicle, using the motor M solely as a drive power source has not reached a predetermined level, upshift is stopped, and the engine 8 is started, when the start of the engine 8 is decided.
