PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium battery which suppresses the reaction between a negative electrode surface and an electrolyte to surely suppress a voltage drop at the initial stage of discharge under a low-temperature environment. SOLUTION: The lithium battery includes a negative electrode containing a lithium, a positive electrode, a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and an electrolyte. The negative electrode has a carbon material containing layer made of a retainer retaining a carbon material, the carbon material containing layer being formed on at least part of the negative electrode surface.
