A method for controlling a compressor of a refrigerating machine, said compressor being switchable between at least three operating states of different outputs (0, e, Pmin, Pmed, Pmax), comprising the steps of a) deciding (S1, S3; S11', S3; S11', S10', S12') about the need to switch the compressor into an operating state (Pmin, Pmed, Pmax) other than the state with the lowest output (0, e) based on the temperature (T) of a mass cooled by the refrigerating machine, and b) selecting (S6, S8; S6', S10'; S6, S13') the other operating state (Pmin, Pmed, Pmax) based on the time duration (t1, t2;t4, t3) of an earlier switched-on operating state. |
