PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform exact brake assistance by accurately determining abrupt braking operation by a driver without installing a special sensor or an extra sensor. SOLUTION: When deceleration of a vehicle is at a predetermined valueαor larger, braking operation speed by the driver (master cylinder boosting speed) is at a predetermined valueγor larger, and an increasing amount of the deceleration per unit time is at a predetermined valueδor larger, a control device determines that the driver has performed the abrupt braking operation. Then, not only execution of unnecessary brake assistance control is prevented when any of deceleration calculating means, an operation speed calculation means, and a deceleration increasing amount calculation means breaks down, but also determination of the abrupt braking is performed by using a deceleration calculation means provided for a general braking device, the operation speed calculation means, and a deceleration increasing amount calculation means, which suppresses a cost increase to the minimum.
