The invention can be used in the by-product coke industry. In a coke quenching chamber (1), coke is cooled by means of a coolant circulating in a coolant circulation system (2). The quenched coke is supplied from the coke quenching chamber (1) to a means for continuously discharging coke (4), the coolant being simultaneously removed from the coolant circulation system (2). The coolant is deviated from the means for continuously discharging coke (4) towards the coolant circulation system (2) via a coolant recirculation circuit (5). The coke is unloaded from the means for continuously discharging coke (4) into a transportation means (15). The coolant excess volume is deviated from the coolant circulation system (2) and/or from the means for continuously discharging coke (4) towards an additional heat-recovery boiler (6) in which said coolant is thermally treated and the exhaust gas heat is recovered. Said invention makes it possible to increase the efficiency of coke heat recovery and to reduce the environment pollution by carbon oxide.
