PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means by which a magnetic disk drive obtains altitude information from a navigation system without newly setting standards for requesting and transmitting information about altitude or atmospheric pressure between a navigation system and a magnetic disk drive. SOLUTION: The controller of the navigation system records the altitude information in the magnetic disk drive, and the magnetic disk drive reads the altitude information recorded in the self device and adjusts floating height of a magnetic head slider. Timing at which the controller records the altitude information is once before stopping of the system, or once for each fixed time interval, or once when altitude is changed by a fixed threshold value or more, and timing at which the magnetic disk drive reads the altitude information and adjusts the floating height of the magnetic head slider is once at the start-up, once for each fixed time interval, or once when entering error recovery operation.
