PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonization furnace having high yield of carbon fiber strands. SOLUTION: The carbonization furnace includes an inlet slit to introduce a flame-proofing fiber strand, a carbonization furnace body to carbonize the flame-proofing fiber strand and an outlet slit to take out the carbon fiber strand produced by carbonizing the flame-proofing fiber strand. The length L of the outlet slit in the moving direction of the carbon fiber strand satisfies the following formula: ä(the carbon fiber strand temperature (°C) at the inlet part B of the outlet slit-200°C)/(the temperature lowering rate 15°C/sec at the outlet slit)}×carbon fiber strand take-out speed (a) (m/hr)/60×60≤L≤ä(the carbon fiber strand temperature (°C) at the inlet part B of the outlet slit-200°C)/(the temperature lowering rate 15°C/sec at the outlet slit)+3}×the carbon fiber strand take-out speed (a) (m/hr) at outlet slit/60×60.
