PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus for preventing passage failure of a recording material, improving the image quality, and reducing the size and the weight. SOLUTION: Grip sections G1, G2 are provided at both ends 12, 22 in a heating roller 10 and a pressing belt 20, located outside of the passage range of the recording material in the width direction, and have friction coefficients larger than the friction coefficients on surfaces in center parts 11, 21 within a passage range of the recording material in the width direction. The diameter on end faces of the grip sections G1, G2 is larger than the diameter in the central parts 11, 21 of the grip section G1, G2, and the maximum diameter of the grip sections G1, G2 is larger than the maximum diameter of the central parts 11, 21.
