PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a down-sized, inexpensive discharge lamp lighting device in which commonization of circuits such as a pre-heating circuit, a light control-protection prohibition circuit, and an input voltage-reset circuit is achieved, while function and capacity of these circuits are maintained equivalent. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device is arranged so that at least one out of the light control-protection prohibition circuit (light-control switching-inhibition circuit 12) and input voltage detection-reset circuit (diode D5) and a pre-heating circuit 22 are controlled by one switching element (a comparator 17).
