A digital image processing apparatus and a control method which rapidly recognizes a face of a user in input image are provided to perform a tracking operation which a user is quickly moved. An input image is inputted from the outside(S310). In the input image, a motion vector is calculated(S320). In the input image, the tracking domain which is the domain finding the face range is set up(S330). The tracking domain at the current frame is set up according to the motion vector. In the tracking domain, the face range is searched(S340). The motion vector is evaluated according to the movement of the subject. The face range is searched in the tracking domain moved as the motion vector. The face range finds within the fast time. The searched face range is indicated on an OSD(On Screen Display)(S350).
